The providers and staff at SMA are excited to have you as a patient. We look forward to providing you with the highest quality privilege to partner with you and work together to meet your healthcare needs. We are also passionate about preventative care and want to provide both the highest quality disease management and also take the time to work with you to prevent future problems down the road.

WHAT TO EXPECT ON YOUR FIRST VISIT

The typical new patient visit is a consultation in which your new provider will take the time to get to know you personally as well as your medical issues. Devoting this extra time at your initial visit allows us to gain a solid foundation of your health information that will result in us to providing you with the highest quality care. After your initial consultation, we will together determine when lab work, additional testing, and/or a physical are needed.

Be sure to arrive 30 minutes early to your scheduled appointment to get checked in and complete any necessary paperwork prior to your appointment time.

BEYOND THE FIRST VISIT

SMA has three main types of visits:

SICK VISIT

You have a sinus infection, the flu, etc. and need to be seen as soon as possible.

MAINTENANCE VISIT

This is a regularly scheduled appointment to monitor ongoing conditions like high blood pressure, diabetes, weight loss, stress management, and so on.

ANNUAL PREVENTATIVE VISIT

This is a proactive and preventative appointment to spend time with your provider to look at your overall health and wellness. During this visit, we will focus on things like your long-term weight and fitness goals, certain risk factors for conditions like diabetes or high blood pressure, other things like bone health, cancer screenings and vaccines.

It is extremely important to us as your medical home to take time each year to step back from our ongoing treatment and care plans and look at your overall health.
